This category is the essence of earthy, woody, mossy notes.  When combined with amber, lavender and citrus, you get a version of a Chypre fragrance made popular in 1917 by Francois Coty.  He called his fragrance Chypre de Coty because it reminded Coty of cypress and Chypre is the french word for cypress.
